Biography

Galen McNeil, PhD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. Her research interests bridge affective, family and clinical science to study children and families’ experiences of positive emotions, such as compassion, gratitude and awe. She examines these in daily life as well as across the course of therapy. Dr. McNeil is expanding her work to include the development of treatments for youth with transdiagnostic deficits in positive emotions and to understanding how these treatments work.

Research & clinical interests

Dr. McNeil’s clinical and teaching interests include psychotherapy at higher levels of care, and outpatient evidence-based treatments for childhood anxiety and OCD (CBT, ERP), trauma (FOCUS, FOCUS-EC) and behavioral challenges (Parent Training).
